So It's Been a While...

Things have been a little busy around here lately. Work has been crazy, we've had a lot to do around the house and Liz has started play practice. I'm excited because tonight is the first night in about three weeks that I've been able to come home and not do a darned thing.

The house is almost complete, as far as the major work goes. They reinforced the foundation, filled in all the cracks and we are just waiting for them to re-stretch the carpet. Once Liz's play is over we will figure out what to do with all of the extra space. We are not entirely sure what to do with the loft area and we are trying to figure out what to do with a 75 gallon salt water aquarium.

I haven't been entirely gluten-free lately. I have noticed quite a bit of exhaustion, more than normal. My eustachian tubes have been open lately which is another (weird) sign that I have ingested gluten. Liz made me some gluten-free brownies the other day that were amazing. I need to have her start posting her recipes.

Settling In

Things are starting to find their places and our house is starting to
feel like a home. All of our parents have now seen the house and they
all seemed to like it. Things have started to settle down for now but
that won't last long. Liz starts play practice next week, so it will
be another rough 8 weeks. This is the last play though so that is a
blessing.

I'll have a little extra time on my hands in the coming weeks so I
should be able to get quite a bit done around the house. That or I'll
get a good amount of "Wii time" in...

We officially own a home

I can't believe that the bank let us walk out of there on thursday
witha house. We have everything moved in and are almost completely
done painting. I am going to clean the apartment tonight while Liz
continues to work on the house. The dogs love the extra space and we
love the fact that a few trips up and down the stairs wear them out.

Oh the humanity...

The last couple of weeks have been just one huge blur. We are closing
on the house on thursday. We are not even close to being done with
packing and we are now painting three rooms (I imagine we will not get
all of the painting done before we move everything in). Freaking
insane.

House Update

I can't believe God's timing. Everything has fallen into place for
our new house. The seller was able to secure financing for closing so
our closing date is official (Jan. 24th) and he has agreed to fix all
that we asked. The next large hurdle was paying the two month's rent
penalty for breaking our lease early ($1300). After talking with our
landlord this week, I found out that a couple asked for an available
apartment starting Feb. 1st. Because there will be no open time
between tenants, they are waiving our early termination fee.

This just goes to show that God's timing is perfect. Everything
having to do with this house has just fallen into place.

I Don't Understand Our Society

I've really been on a global warning kick lately and I'm not entirely sure why. I am not, however, on the same global warming kick as most of the world is. I am becoming a skeptic to the idea of man-made global warming.

It's not that I don't believe the earth's average temperature is rising (because I think that it is, there is proof of that) it's just that I'm not sure how much of a role humans are actually playing. I think if we stopped all emissions of greenhouse gases, we would still experience global warming. It has shown through history that there have been warming trends and cooling trends (think ice age, but to a lesser degree) over the past three to four thousand years. I believe that we are exiting a small cooling trend and starting the journey to a small warming trend.

The American public at large has been force fed this theory by the ever-so knowledge-ful Al Gore. (By the way, did you know that Al Gore invented the internet? Just ask him) However, if you look into the scientific research that backs up Al Gore's rants and raves, you will find that the data has been massaged to give the desired results. The fact is that the results from every climate simulation ever run do not line up with what is actually going on. These climate models are continually edited and changed in order to mimic what is happening in reality. Since climatology is a legitimate science, using the scientific method, other scientists should be able to replicate results based on correct data. Scientist are having difficult replicating the results based on the data that Al Gore preaches as gospel.

My whole point is not to bash "going green." As a whole, I think this is a great idea. I truly believe there are better uses for fossil fuels than to burn them in vehicles (think plastics, new polymers, etc...). However, I don't like the idea of the government throwing money at a problem that we really have no control over anyway (I'm paying taxes, why should taxes go up because some yahoo with bad data says so).

Ultimately, no matter what you believe, it is a theory. Anybody can think whatever they want to. I just want people to really think about what they believe in. I'm not going to believe something just because the inventor of the internet makes a bad movie and says the world is going to die.

House Update

We are on our way to close (on time) on January 24th. Things are falling into place, by the grace of God. As of now we have to pay a penalty to get out of our lease but I think it will be worth it. We also don't have as much time to move out as originally thought. Our apartment is allowing us to give fewer than 30 days notice so we can leave the lease whenever we get our stuff out of the apartment. We originally thought we would have the apartment for an extra week and a half but why pay for an apartment when we are paying for a house? So, we will be painting and moving all of our stuff over a weekend (we are definitely painting the master bedroom before we move any furniture into the room). This will mean Liz and I will have to paint the day that we close, and move everything that we can (into other rooms) while the paint is drying. It will make for a busy weekend. Anyone who would like to participate in the "Willis Moving Party" is more than welcome to.
